A range of employers in West Lothian have offered to come to your school and deliver classroom input, ranging from career insight sessions to employability workshops, and more. The team are passionate about raising awareness of construction careers and have offered to support West Lothian schools by supporting Careers Fairs or providing classroom input to raise awareness of the opportunities and pathways available within the construction industry. A classroom session can focus on Craft Apprenticeships (Bricklaying, Joinery, Carpentry etc.) as well as Technical roles such as Architects and Civil Engineers. They provide a high-quality route into a career in investment management through their paid trainee programme, which is operated by over 60 firms. Careers Outreach In addition to the trainee programme, I2020 also provide a comprehensive careers outreach service to schools, colleges and universities. They can support schools, colleges, and universities with a range of careers-based activity to support students in developing their understanding of the sector. I2020 deliver workshops in schools, further education colleges and universities including: - Exploring careers in investment management. - Preparing for the recruitment process. - Investing to improve climate change. Details (Target Audience, Duration, Capacity) I2020 are offering these 45-60 minute workshops to S4-S6 pupils. Sessions would ideally be delivered to a maximum of 30-40 pupils per session, but should you desire larger groups, please request as larger numbers can be accommodated. In addition to these workshops, I2020 can deliver bespoke sessions based on the individual need of schools, colleges, and universities. Upcoming Opportunities - Workplace Visits I2020 are running workplace visits for S5 and S6 students in November and February at a number of member firms, giving students an insight into investment management, the opportunity to visit workplaces and meet trainees and apprentices. ROYAL INSTITUTE OF CHARTERED SURVEYORS (RICS) - BOOKABLE WORKSHOPS UNTIL FEBRUARY 2024RICS Schools Outreach Programme The RICS have created several interactive and exciting engagements, targeting young people aged 15–18-years, aiming to offer an insight into the built environment looking at a variety of career pathways within surveying. Sustainability Workshop – 60-90 minutes A brief overview of surveying, looking at different career options within land, property, and infrastructure. The presentation will be followed by an interactive sustainability challenge. Students will form teams and tasked to create a sustainable entertainment venue for young people of a similar age. This workshop will enhance team working, communication, creativity, and presentation skills. Career Insights - Surveyor Presentation – 30-60 minutes Led by a surveyor/apprentice, they will present their experiences as a surveyor including their job role, career, pathway, RICS membership. Following the presentation there will be a physical activity where students will work in teams to undertake a task with similar objectives to a role in surveying. Marcus would like to engage with more schools in the area and is interested in delivering Personal Finance sessions to Senior Phase pupils as well as BGE, and can target his sessions for particular groups of pupils, for example, school leavers, those thinking about going to university and wanting to understand how to budget their money, or equally a tailored session for those looking to move into work or an apprenticeship. LAUREN JOHNSTON - SOFT SKILLS WORKSHOPS/ ENTREPRENEURSHIP SUPPORTLauren Johnston is an experienced tutor with over 7 years’ experience, as well as being a study skills expert. Lauren is a Master’s Business Graduate from Heriot Watt University and has worked with over 300 learners in supporting them with their studies, subject specific or general academic support.
