NHS Lothian Department of Laboratory Medicine, in partnership with Fife College, offer a unique range of work-based learning programmes to S5 and S6 pupils within West Lothian. The school forms a bespoke facility based in the laboratory suite within St John's Hospital.
Since its inception in 2013, the School has been at the forefront of delivering various educational programmes through innovative approaches. The school has designed several programmes through which a Senior Phase pupil can progress to a registered Biomedical Scientist.

This training facility has the benefit of being surrounded by diagnostic laboratories and experienced scientists whose expertise is utilised within the delivery of the various programmes. This offers students a tailored blend of specialised skills and qualifications to prepare them for careers within the NHS and Science sectors.

These programmes could offer pupils a highly flexible option for their Senior Phase, with the opportunity to attain the NPA in Science in Year 1 and, if they wish to continue to year 2 , the opportunity to gain the HNC Applied Science.
