Learning all internal procedures and how they operate, ensuring procedures are followed in the event of fire, flooding, accident or damage, including liaising with the appropriate staff, contractors etc.
Learning how the heating plant is operated and monitor the condition of the heating plant, notifying the appropriate staff of the need to affect repairs and any required routine maintenance.
Ensuring that the boiler house is kept clear at all times and what frost protection measures are required, support the undertaking of the measures as necessary.
Regularly checking the lighting in internal and external areas to ensure they are adequately lit. you will learn how to replace lighting equipment and fuses and undertake this where possible. Ensuring that all unnecessary lighting is extinguished when the building is closed.
Taking and relaying messages, responding to enquires and operating the security door entry system.
In schools with a swimming pool, you will learn how to undertake tests and maintenance for the pool in accordance with the pool procedures.
Undertake such training as West Lothian Council might reasonably require within working hours.
In some establishments there may be a requirement support with the transportation of meals which will entail loading vans with prepared meals and unloading and return journey for empty containers at defined times as determined by your line manager.
Good numeracy skills
Able to communicate with staff at all levels in writing or verbally
Have a good general IT skill set and familiar with email and basic PC operation
Must have good customer service skills
Other Essential Information for example, Enhanced Disclosure Scotland check required or Registration with Scottish Social Services Council, SSSC, required.

£8.05 - £8.91 per hour
ADDITIONAL EMPLOYABILITY SUPPORT
The successful candidate will have a bespoke training package that will cater to their individual needs and working environment. This will be both internal and accredited external learning.
Throughout the programme a member of the Stepsn2Work team will provide regularly one to one support and deliver online training. An individual training plan will be created which outlines training and development opportunities. This will be reviewed during regular employability focused one to ones.
You will have the opportunity to participate in online employability sessions which includes a CV Workshop and Preparation for Interview. Part of this training requires you to complete an online work book portfolio.
A full West Lothian Council Induction and if required, Health and Safety training will be provided, as well as any internal training required for the post.
