A Broxburn medical practice would like to give a school leaver the opportunity to work towards a recognised qualification while gaining experience working with them in learning a range of duties which will give you an introduction to working with the public and on a number of IT systems.
A GP Administrator/Receptionist for this General Medical Practice is both a patient facing and practice back office role; working closely within a small team the post holder will be required to effectively interact with the patients as well as other external healthcare teams within both primary and secondary care. The post holder will be given the opportunity to learn a broad range of administrative and computer based tasks in support of the Practice Doctors, Practice Nurses and the Practice Manager with minimum supervision, and represent the practice in a professional manner at all times.
Providing reception duties; ensuring that procedures are followed, receiving patients and visitors courteously and efficiently and answering the telephone promptly and politely.
Log patient appointments in line with clinic times ensuring that procedures for booking routine and urgent appointments are adhered to.
Report any issues regarding appointments to the Supervisor.
Log requests for house calls into the clinical system.
Explain the practice arrangements and requirements for temporary and new patients so that they are able to access all of the services they need such as completion of the the new patient registration form, new patient leaflet and directing them to our Practice website.
Store specimens in accordance with the Practice policy ready for uplift.
Prepare repeat prescriptions for GP sign off and file for patient or Pharmacy uplift.
Ensure that all requests for acute medications are recorded on system in the appropriate slots.
Deal with patient requests for information, test results, requests to speak to clinical staff, ensuring that data confidentiality and privacy is adhered to at all times.
Arrange transport for patients as requested by the clinical team.
What will I learn?
You will be fully supported through a Business Administration SCQF Level 6, which will be delivered in the workplace. You will also receive an induction and internal training. Your communication skills, time management and organisational skills will all be developed as part of this opportunity.
What qualification or qualities are required?
We are ideally looking for National 5s A-C or Highers. You will be organised and able to prioritise work, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, good listening skills, and confident telephone manner and be able to work on own initiative.
