Almond Engineering is a successful Design and Precision Engineering company offering Design, Precision Engineering & Welding/Fabrication services to customers requiring high levels of service and technical excellence.
Formed in 1979 we have grown and adapted over the years and today currently serve over 200 customers across most sectors of the UK economy including: Oil & Gas, Semiconductor, Pharmaceutical, Aerospace, Packaging, Food & Drink, Medical & even Higher education.
The position is for a Modern Apprenticeship leading to becoming a qualified Welder/Fabricator. It is anticipated that the apprenticeship will last approximately 4 years. The successful individual will work closely alongside the Welding/Fabrication team in order to manufacture components for various industries. Our strong aim would be to offer the person a permanent contract at the end of the apprenticeship, but this is not guaranteed. Almond is an equal opportunities employer in all respects.
In year one you will be required to attend college and therefore will need your own transport or use of public transport when commuting to work or college when term starts. The scheme duration is approximately 4 years long comprising the following:- First Year - 2 days per week at college 3 days at Almond. Second Year 2 days at college 3 days at Almond. Third Year full time in the workplace. Year 4 full time in the workplace. Note Apprentices may move forward to become future managers and may become eligible for HNC/D qualifications where appropriate.
What will I learn?
Health and Safety. Interpretation of Technical communication. Team work. Problem solving. Producing component by manual fabricating techniques. Fabricating and assembling mechanical products. As with most apprenticeships you will also attend college in first year to gain an SVQ level 2 PEO Fabrication and Welding and in Second year an NC in Fabrication and Welding plus beginning your SVQ Level 3 in Fabrication and Welding in the workplace. Further educational opportunities may become available depending on attitude and grades achieved during your training.
What qualification or qualities are required?
Hold a minimum of 3 National 5’s (or Equivalent) or above such as Maths/English/ Science or Tech Studies and/or a relevant NC qualification. Enthusiasm for engineering and a determination to learn. Self starter and motivated person. Ability to get on with colleagues and customers. Commitment to upholding high health and safety standards. Responsibility, reliability and dedication. Excellent communication skills with the ability to use your own initiative and a strong drive to succeed are all essential.
