Almond Engineering is a successful Design and Precision Engineering company offering Design, Precision Engineering & Fabrication services to customers requiring high levels of service and technical excellence. Formed in 1979 we have grown and adapted over the years and today currently serve approximately 204 customers across most sectors of the UK economy including: Oil & Gas, Semiconductor, Pharmaceutical, Aerospace, Packaging, Food & Drink, Medical & even Higher education.
The position is a modern apprenticeship leading to becoming a qualified machinist. It is anticipated that the apprenticeship will last approximately 4 years.
The successful individual will work closely alongside the CNC turning / Milling team in order to manufacture components for various industries.
Our strong aim would be to offer the person a permanent contract at the end of the apprenticeship, but this is not guaranteed.

In year one you will be required to attend Edinburgh College Mid Lothian Campus and therefore will need your own transport or use of public transport when commuting to work or college when term starts.
What will I learn?
Health and Safety.
Interpretation of Technical communication.
Producing tooling to exacting standards by precision manufacturing techniques.
As with all apprenticeships you will also attend college to gain an NC in Mechanical Engineering plus a Mechanical SVQ level 2 PEO. In the workplace from year 2 to year 4 complete an SVQ Level 3 and Modern Apprenticeship. Further educational opportunities may become available depending on attitude and grades achieved during your training.
What qualification or qualities are required?
Candidates should have Maths and English and at least one other subject at National 5 or above.
1st year of the apprenticeship you will attend college 5 days per week at Edinburgh College Mid Lothian Campus:- to attain Performing Engineering Operations in Mechanical SVQ Level 2 (SCQF Level 5) and also an NC in Mechanical Engineering . Whilst attending the workplace during College holidays.
2nd year of apprenticeship you will attend the workplace 5 days per week,
working toward SVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering. 3rd year of apprenticeship you will attend the workplace 5 days per week. Working toward SVQ Level 3
4th year 5 days working toward a SVQ Level 3. Also completion of your MA program.
