This is an exciting opportunity to join a young and growing civil engineering contractor based out of our Livingston Head Office. The role of Civil Engineer Graduate Apprentice will allow the successful candidate the opportunity to work on projects of varying size and complexities including wind farms, hydro electric projects and other civil engineering projects throughout the UK. They will learn various skills from setting out, site management and project management while studying for their degree.
This will be a very varied role and dependant on workload and active sites you could be office based in Livingston, moving between different sites around the UK on a daily basis or based on a large project full time for the duration of the work. As such it is essential the candidate is able and willing to work away from home Monday to Friday.
Within your Civil Engineering Graduate Apprentice role, not only will you work closely with our customers to meet their needs, you will also spend one day per week studying on the University of Dundee’s Graduate Apprenticeship Programme, where you will work towards achieving your BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering.

What will I learn?
Assist in the following activities:
Check and understand drawings and specifications.
Setting out works utilising GPS, Total Station and other surveying equipment as required.
Produce CAD drawings as and when required
Undertake drawing take-offs for material procurement.
Liaise with other contractors on site.
Ensure Health, Safety and Environmental requirements are adhered to.
Ensure Inspection Test Plans and quality records necessary to ensure quality requirements are maintained.
Resolve any unexpected technical difficulties and other problems that may arise.
Arrange testing of materials.
Keep a Site Diary.
Introduce improvements and innovation where appropriate to areas of your responsibility.
Undertake other duties as required by the Company to facilitate construction of the works.
Attend University one day per week during term time and approximately 8 hours of private study out with work time per week.
What qualification or qualities are required?
The Ideal Candidate
An interest in civil engineering and ambition to gain their degree while working.
The role is based in Livingston and the candidate must be willing to work away from home for extensive periods of time throughout the UK.
Must be eligible to work in the UK
Valid UK driving licence
A Modern or Foundation Apprenticeship in a relevant area along with a Higher in both maths and a science or engineering subject (Physics preferred) or
BBBB at Higher including both maths and a science or engineering subject (Physics preferred) or equivalent
Civil engineering or construction work experience
Currently hold a CSCS card
Someone who is looking to progress to site or project management.
